Welcome to Lexicon Lending Library
July 29, 2010

The idea of having a library began in mid 2001. The idea took root, the preliminary work was done, and on May 25, 2002 the Lexicon Library was opened in Escazú with an inventory of around 600 books. Since December 2003, the library has been located in its present premises in the West Sabana area.

Getting hold of good books in English has always been difficult and expensive in Costa Rica. We wanted to provide a place that was peaceful, where people could find refuge in the middle of a busy life. We wanted to provide a sense of hospitality, acceptance and a listening ear along with quality books.

Over the years we have received many donations of books, some of which we have kept and some we have shared with other communities in Jacó, in Guanacaste, the Reforma prison, etc.

We now have over 6000 books, including a whole section of children’s books.   Most of our “regulars” are native English speakers, but it is our desire to encourage those who are learning English to come and discover new authors, new cultures, and enjoy a coffee and fellowship together in the place of refuge Lexicon Lending Library has become.
